Well, it’s that time of year again, “Back to School!” I’m sure the other busy, working sports moms can relate to the stress & relief of back to school. What’s on the list? Back to school shopping for clothes, shoes, school supplies and spending on tuition and books.
I have 2 in college this year. My oldest is pretty independent and has worked very close with her counselor. Being a student athlete, she receives priority registration, so hasn’t had a problem getting the classes she needs. However, my college freshman didn’t have it so easy. I pretty much have to hand hold her through the process and without the priority registration, we’ve already had some roadblocks to her collegiate progress.
As for the little ones, they’ve been nagging me constantly about school shopping. So, we visited the PTA website, downloaded the school supply list and hit Target.
I just couldn’t believe that there were 27 different items on the list for 5th graders, including an entire ream of xerox paper. Really? So much for California’s ACLU ruling that public school shouldn’t cost parents anything.
That said, I’m relieved mine are going back to school. That means consistency and a routine for me. I like having my girls on a regular schedule that includes school, homework, meals and practice. And I love having half of my days free for work and exercise. So, here’s to celebrating back to school!
