There was a time when I would take 2 paid weeks of vacation and travel out of state. But, gone are the days of being employed with benefits such as paid vacations. Both my husband and I are self employed so vacations cost us double, we don’t earn an income or have to pay someone else to handle our workload.
That said, I still attended the Los Angeles Travel Show & Expo to check out vacation destinations. Our family takes mini-vacations and when the girls’ have out of town golf tournaments, we try to make a mini-vacation out of those trips as well.
They played a 2-day golf tournament in Monterey, California so we were able to visit the Aquarium and enjoy the seaside villages and restaurants. One of my older daughters was a competitive cheerleader, so I took a trip with her to Orlando, Florida for nationals. We spent time at the various theme parks, the zoo and even drove up to visit some relatives in Jacksonville. The girls especially enjoy our summer tournaments in Palm Desert or La Quinta because they get to swim during our stay at the local resorts.
I’m hoping that the girls are growing up to enjoy our mini “golf” vacations and it doesn’t turn into all work for them. They look forward to our trips, the resort stays and don’t mind the early morning tee times.
