Home Office Must Haves

Home OfficeIn my first post for 2013 I shared the fact that I’d stay on top of keeping my desk clean this year.  Today, I’d like to learn how your home office is set up and why it’s functional for you.  I sure could use some pointers in this area.

My home office was originally our laundry and mud room.  It’s basically a hallway with an entrance on the side of our house that reaches both the garage and our family room.  Since we live in sunny Socal, we really don’t use it.  We moved our laundry to the garage and that gave me my private home office.  Of course, I have a pretty good selection of images on Pinterest that I plan to use to help remodel the look of my home office in the coming months.  Let’s hope I can achieve something much more prettier than what I have today.

It’s a nice wide space but can be rather narrow at only 6 feet across.  I built in some shelves above and there were existing cabinets along the wall.  Some things that I can’t live without:

    1. Dual MonitorsMy dual monitor:  When I work out of a coffee shop I’m without my second monitor and I hate it!  This is simply one of those things that once you have it, you can’t live without it!
    2. My Toshiba Dynadock Docking Station: Set right in between my laptop and monitor.  It allows me to use both monitors and gives me extra ports so I can plug in devices that allow me to use my blue tooth, speaker phone, charge my cell phone and more.
    3. My next purchase will be a NeatDesk Scanner: This comes in real handy after a successful trade show.  Being able to scan and file business cards is key to improving on my CRM especially in a timely manner.  I hate filing with a passion.  If everything could be digitally filed, I’m all for that.
    4. My Jabra GO 6470 Bluetooth: Sure, the hands free driving law here in California is what made me finally invest in a bluetooth.  Again, another “I can’t live without” item.  This bluetooth also works with Skype.  So, I could be on my cell one moment then on Skype the next and not have to hold a phone to my ear.  This allows me to speak and type notes at the same time.

So, what are your home office must haves?

Right now I am a traveling office, one of my favorite office spaces is in a tub…LOL! But I do have an office I just am not utilizing it. I need a new chair, and I am thinking that dual monitor is awesome! Want to delve into some video pursuits soon, so I will be back in the “office” soon! THanks for the great ideas! Nikki

Oh yes Nikki, the dual monitor is amazing! I hate having to print something up to be able to view it while I work on something. So, it’s great to have a document up on one monitor and web browser on another.
